Day 8 - YOU’RE GONNA SUCK FOR A WHILE!

One of the hardest parts of learning guitar or trying to make improvements in your skills is mentally negotiating the gap between where you currently are and where you want to be. You have to begin where you are, no matter if that means starting from zero knowledge at all or making the jump from simple blues to hacking through your first jazz tunes. No matter what you’re trying to learn, you are going to be pretty bad at it the first times you work on it. This is where your ego can get you in trouble. There’s no shame in being a beginner at anything, so don’t be too hard on yourself. Fall back on your desire to play during tough times and keep the faith. If you have never played before, jump in and start swimming and get the ‘suck’ period over with as quickly as possible. If you are trying to jump up a level, don’t be that student that spends the whole lesson telling the teacher everything he or she already knows so the teacher doesn’t think they are lame. In truth, few things make you seem lamer.
