Rig Veda, a.k.a. NYC composer / producer / multi-instrumentalist Jay Rothman, delivers a stirring, atmospheric experience on his recent 12-minute electronic single “Fire Fight.” The piece is welcoming, unsettling, and thought-inspiring over the course of its run time and is inspired by the paintings of self-taught New York artist Gosha Levotchkin, who works in the Ligne Claire tradition. In Rig Veda, Rothman combines the thoughts and textures of electronic music, modern jazz, hip hop, and Indian classical music with his own continually-evolving creative ambitions to bring forth music that’s fresh, original, and idiosyncratic.
“Fire Fight” is a brilliant piece of free form music that becomes more compelling and involving with each successive listening session. The synths, beats, and disembodied voices conspire to pull you into the world of the track but remain unpredictable and terse.
