Single review by Mike O’Cull www.mikeocull.com

Gemtarra is an energetic and gritty indie rock band from Philadelphia formed by twin sisters/guitarists/songwriters Gina and Tina Cieri. The group’s recent single, “Fire Me Up,” is an invigorating blast of hip-shaking rock and roll constructed on a tight, insistent beat, filled out with crunchy, overdriven guitars, and topped with vocals that show a hint of New Wave. The lineup of the Cieri twins, Bryan Feddish (bass), Sunny Dee (drums), Megan Glaubitz (lead vox) and Tawana Simons (percussion) lays down a great “live band” sound on the track that comes straight from the independent underground and into your room. The Cieri’s writing style contains decades of hit single DNA that’s been renovated, re-thought, and blended with what the two of them think rock music should sound like. What comes out is a unique flavor of vocal-and-loud-guitar music that’ll light up anyone looking for the real thing.

“Fire Me Up” comes from Gemtarra’s impending EP Fired Up that was tracked with Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Phil Nicolo at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. The band has been working towards this release since its inception in 2018 and shows just how much the unit has grown artistically since then. It’s the kind of straight-up rock and roll that once put America on the musical map and could very well do it again. Gemtarra is unabashedly real, vibrant, and creative and is absolutely deserving of your listening time. Play this track loud to achieve the proper effect.
