Singer-songwriter Estelle California is a multi-talented and multicultural performer with a beautiful sound an international flavor. Her latest single, “Star (Radio Edit), came out in July of 2019 and is a sensual mix of pop and neo-soul styles that vibes like a nighttime ride in a swank custom limousine. Born in France, Estelle came up learning piano, saxophone, dance, and classical singing. She’s been in Oakland since 2013 and has become part of the city’s vibrant and diverse culture. Her love of her new home even inspired her to take “California” as her artist name. She has absorbed the promises of the West Coast and, as a result, is making the best music of her career.
“Star” is an outspoken song of human empowerment that reflects Estelle’s deep commitment to advocating for the overlooked and oppressed among us. It’s built on a slinky, mid-speed groove that perfectly supports Estelle’s intense lyricism and emotive vocal approach. She draws much inspiration from the iconic Nina Simone and displays the same type of social concern as the legendary singer. Estelle makes music with a clear spiritual calling to it that comes from knowing the effects of oppression firsthand. “Star” is a compelling and entertaining track that succeeds on all levels.
