TREY WARNER “MEANT FOR YOU” EP REVIEW - KILLER POP/ROCK!

TREY WARNER

Meant for You

By Mike O’Cull www.mikeocull.com

Trey Warner keeps it smooth and smart on his new EP release Meant for You. Warner is a musician and actor based in Utah who writes tightly structured and atmospheric songs and who has shared stages with major acts including Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, and Incubus. The tracks on Meant for You combine vintage techno-pop, New Wave, and early 80s pop DNA into a refreshing and accessible sound with a timeless emotional appeal.

Warner is an outstanding vocalist who easily delivers the yearning and romantic longing his original music demands. His title track, “Meant for You,” opens the set with a crisp, uptempo vibe that screams “early MTV” and paints Warner as a skilled descendant of the old school pop masters. “We Found Love, Young Love” is a dramatic ballad reminiscent of Mike Reno and Ann Wilson’s mega hit “Almost Paradise” from the Footloose soundtrack. Much of Warner’s music feels cinematic and would fit well in a variety of films. Be sure to stick around for Trey’s closer, the rocking “Teenage Christmas.” Trey Warner has a lot going on with Meant for You and every bit of it is good. He’s deeper than most and his future looks bright.
