Spida Collins is an emerging underground hip-hop artist coming straight out of Mount Andrew, Alabama with a new track and music video called “Insomnia Gang” that is 100% straight fire. Collins is a skilled wordsmith with an authentically personal flow that sets him apart from the rest of the rap world. His style is level-headed and deep and he puts his message across in a way that increases its power. The video takes it even further.
“Insomnia Gang” is an anthem to the grind it takes to succeed in the 21st Century and the title refers to the 24/7 effort he puts in to be who he is. The track is packed with the hard-edged soul of someone who has lived the life he writes about and Spida’s realness is the first thing you notice when listening. The beat is low-down and bold and matches up well with Collins’ lyrical delivery and “Insomnia Gang” is balanced perfectly between words and music. Neither one oversteps the other and this balance shows the control and restraint of true artistry. All this track needs is for the world to hear it.
Spida Collins represents Southern hip-hop at its best. He adds his own magic to a familiar stylistic base and the resulting noise is big enough to reach the whole world. “Insomnia Gang” is cutting, classic, and uplifting all at once. Already, it’s easily one of the year’s best new songs. We will all be hearing a lot more from this young artist.
