“Peace (Sever Pt. 2)”

Portland’s Bleary shows mad artistry and top skills on his recent single “Peace (Sever Pt. 2).” He’s a hip hop/R&B artist with a taste of indie rock/emo to him that gives him a crossover point most rappers have never found. “Peace (Sever Pt. 2)” is the second installment in his three-part “breakup” series that’s all about dealing with the heartbreak and sadness that come when love ends. It’s a brilliantly melancholy track built on a hypnotic guitar figure and a chilled-out drum beat that finds Bleary doing more singing than rapping. He smoothly incorporates some early-2000s rock vibes into his 2020 hip hop and it really does change everything.
“Peace (Sever Pt. 2)” is a deep emotional landscape that lets Bleary explore the hardcore breakup experience and get listeners to share his pain. He wails over the minimalistic beat like a broken soul, taking us through the darkest parts of his separation. His lyrics are strong, straightforward, and bleak, leaving no doubt as to the difficulties he’s describing and puts a lot of genuine feeling into the microphone. Bleary is a new face to many but “Peace (Sever Pt. 2)” will convince rap fans that they’d better start tracking his career.
