ANNABELLE “XI : XI” ALBUM REVIEW - R&B/NEO-SOUL QUEEN RISING!

ANNABELLE

XI : XI

By Mike O’Cull www.mikeocull.com

Contemporary R&B/neo-soul vocalist Annabelle shines brightly on her latest album XI : XI. The title, Roman numerals for 11 : 11, represents a spiritually significant number for Annabelle that tells her that her life is exactly where it’s supposed to be. It also represents guidance and divinity on her personal journey and Annabelle uses that guidance to interpret and understand all parts of her life experience. Deep stuff, to be sure, but one listen and you’ll hear the depth and vulnerability in her songs and voice. She sings stories of love, dedication, music, and effort that come across as genuine and real over misty beats that long for the small hours of the morning.

Tracks like “Glass,” “Mother Nature,” and “In My Zone” show Annabelle at her best. Her vocals are smooth and evocative and she vibes beautifully with the slick sounds behind her without ever pushing too hard or impeding the beautiful space contained in these productions. As a result, XI : XI wraps listeners in a gorgeously emotive suite overlooking an illuminated cityscape of heartfelt situations and concerns. Other outstanding tracks here include “Playin’ Fair” and “No Promises (feat. Kubla Kahn).” Annabelle is a stunningly talented artist unafraid to show her true self, linger in difficult areas, and invite us in to witness it all. She’s a quiet storm with a bright future ahead of her. Listen tonight.
